## How is pharmacy software different from a normal POS?

**A normal POS knows the item and price; pharmacy software also knows the batch, expiry date, active ingredient and the different selling units of the same drug.**

A pharmacy may hold the same drug in three batches with three purchase prices and three expiry dates. If the system doesn’t distinguish them, you sell the newest batch and leave the oldest to expire, and profit becomes a guess. Pharmacy-specific software dispenses the earliest expiry automatically and costs each sale from its actual batch.
